Lines form for the raw bar & warm, buttered lobster rolls at this tiny, high-end oyster bar.via Google

A tiny, marble-countered raw bar that does not take reservations, resulting in legendary wait times that are entirely justified by the quality.

Signature
The Johnnycake topped with honey butter, Boston caviar, and smoked trout.

The food was decent, 7/10 but not worth the hour long wait. We really enjoyed the oyster bar options which were really fresh but the variety of food options were pretty plain for the price point and fairly salty. The service was great! And so it was a good experience - calamari 9/10 - tuna nicoise 8.5/10 - clam chowder 7.5/10 flavor was good but it is very thin - hot lobster roll 5.5/10 didn’t have much flavor and was a little underseasoned - daily special seafood paella 6.5/10 with lobster was not traditional paella and did not have rice but had pasta. Much more watery and a bit too salty from the chorizo - johnnycake 9/10 fluffy and rich and buttery but not excessively so, very good

Before visiting Neptune Oyster, I had already done my research and knew it was one of Boston's most popular restaurants. Every post, review, and recommendation warned about the wait, but wow - they were not exaggerating. We showed up around lunchtime (definitely not our smartest decision), and there was already a line stretching down the sidewalk. At first, my boyfriend and I debated whether it was worth waiting, but people just kept joining the line behind us. Between the crowd and the overwhelmingly positive reviews, we figured there had to be a reason for all the hype. In the end, I think we waited close to two hours. Looking back, that feels a little ridiculous, and I probably wouldn't do that again. That said, once you get inside, it makes more sense. The restaurant is tiny - much smaller than I expected - which explains why seating is so limited and the line grows so quickly. We ordered oysters and a lobster roll. The oysters were phenomenal and easily the best oysters we had during our entire vacation. Fresh, flavorful, and absolutely worth ordering. The lobster roll was our first ever, and while I'm glad I can finally say I've tried one, it just wasn't my favorite thing. It was good and well-made, but I learned that lobster rolls simply aren't something I'd go out of my way for. The fries, however, were fantastic! Despite how busy the restaurant was, the service was impressively fast and efficient. The staff clearly know how to keep things moving while still providing a great experience. Overall, I'm glad we experienced Neptune Oyster because it's one of those iconic Boston restaurants that everyone talks about. The food was excellent, especially the oysters, and now I understand why it's so popular. My biggest piece of advice: plan accordingly. They don't take reservations, and if you're visiting during peak hours, be prepared for a very long wait.

We lined up 40 minutes prior to opening time in cold morning. But this place was good👍 sat on the bar , our server was polite, fast, friendly. I love their lobster bisque, it has good spices than regular bisque. The lobster roll is generous size and delicious. Ordered some little neck clams, Neptune oysters , delish and fresh! Also tried their special crudo tartare of the day: veal and tuna

Neptune Oyster came highly recommended and let me tell you, this was PHENOMENAL! This place is known for having a wait no matter what time you come. My wife and I decided to go 45 minutes before they opened and that was the best decision ever. We were able to be seated as soon as they opened. We enjoyed great conversation in line with Bostonians and two couples that were from Atlanta like us. What are the odds? The restaurant is small and intimate and you sit very close with fellow patrons. Very familial. I loved it. The service was lovely and attentive. Now to the remarkable food! We started with oysters. Simply put, YES! Then we had the clam chowder and the lobster roll with fries. The clam chowder was thinner than we expected but delicious! The lobster roll… THE LOBSTER ROLL! was honestly the best lobster roll I’ve ever had in my entire life. Neptune Oyster may have honestly exceeded expectations!

Excellent restaurant where most of the time you will need to wait. Recommend come in twos so you have more chance to getting seated, large party will normally need to wait longer. Loved the Johnnycake , hot lobster rolls and Naptune pearl oysters
