We dined at Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse in Boston and had a really memorable evening. The food was excellent — beautifully prepared, full of flavor, and what you’d expect from a higher-end Italian steakhouse. The starters, steak and pasta dishes we tried were all standout. What impressed me most was the service: fast, professional, and genuinely friendly. Even though we didn’t have a reservation, they welcomed us right away and sat us in a great spot — right in the middle of the restaurant with a view into the open kitchen. It’s fun to watch the chefs in action while you dine. The restaurant’s interior is elegant but comfortable. Crisp white tablecloths, high ceilings, free-flowing space, and enough bustle to feel lively without being chaotic. Davio’s is located in Back Bay / Park Square, so there’s a nice balance between that classic Boston charm and easy access. If you want a special night out with great food, polished service, and a little peek behind the kitchen door, Davio’s is a strong choice.
I recently dined at Davio’s Italian Steakhouse near Back Bay, and overall, it was a great experience! The standout for me was the clam chowder—absolutely fantastic and some of the best I’ve had in Boston. My steak was flavorful and well-prepared, though it wasn’t cooked quite the way I prefer. Still, the quality of the meat was excellent. As for desserts, they were decent but didn’t blow me away. I did enjoy the eclair—it was a lovely treat to end the meal. The service was attentive, and the atmosphere was elegant yet welcoming. I’d definitely recommend it for a nice night out, especially if you’re a fan of seafood and steak.
I recently had lunch at Davio’s in Boston and, while it didn’t quite reach the level of places like The Capital Grille, it was still a very enjoyable experience. I went with the power lunch menu, starting with the onion soup topped with a Gruyère crostini. This was the standout of the meal — rich, well-balanced, and executed perfectly. A classic done right. For the main course, I ordered the free-range chicken with bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, lemon aioli, and sourdough. In hindsight, the sourdough should have been the giveaway, but I didn’t initially realize it was a sandwich. That said, it was still quite good — flavorful and well put together, though the chicken was slightly dry. The parmigiano fries on the side were solid as well — good by U.S. standards, even if not quite on par with what you’d find in Portugal or Belgium. The iced tea deserves a special mention — exceptionally well done and surprisingly memorable. Dessert was an almond orange cake, which was also very good and a nice way to finish the meal. Overall, Davio’s delivered a pleasant lunch with a few highlights, particularly the soup and dessert. While it may not be at the very top tier compared to some others, it’s certainly a reliable and worthwhile option.
I visited Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse yesterday, and while the atmosphere was generally quiet and pleasant, the food was a total disaster. As a steak lover visiting Boston on business from Chicago, this was easily the worst meal I’ve had in a long time. I ordered my steak medium, but it came out as tough as rubber. To make matters worse, the exterior was so overcooked it was hard and charred. Also, the calamari was mostly fried vegetables—it felt like a cheap trick to make the portion look larger. Deeply disappointed.
I REALLY wanted some fantastic Italian food to end our trip in Boston. We were within walking distance from the park and the reviews on Google were high - 4.4. I should have checked Yelp per usual. 3.9 stars as of this moment. I try to stay away when it’s below 4 because I know how picky I am. We shared everything, per usual, to try more. We started with the tomato soup and beet salad. The tomato soup was savory and delicious. One could hope for more crostinis with goat cheese of course. The beet salad was strange. I feel that it needed to be served atop greens. The fried goat cheese balls on top were what I liked about it. For entrees we did the split versions of the tortellini and the gnocchi. The gnocchi direly needs a little sear. They are so mushy. The flavor is good but the texture is so bad. The tortelloni was under al dente. You could see that the pasta was not cooked through when cutting it on eat. Unfortunately, our server was also the bar tender so he did not make it to our table to offer fresh cracked pepper or freshly grated cheese for the pasta. I think that may have made it slightly better but the massive technical errors were a huge let down, especially at the price point.
