What an outstanding dinner. I was welcomed at the door with a happy birthday as it was noted on my reservation. Got a delicious "Fashion Forward" cocktail. Many steakhouse bring out their butter frozen which is terrible, here it is warm and creamy and goes great with the bread. Only note I'll have is on the lobster dumplings. You're going to be paying a lot for a Lil, it's go great flavor and if you're looking for something pretty, go for it. But honestly their sides are massive and it's even say their much cheaper side of hash browns which is essentially a deep dish pizza hashbrowns cut into 4 pieces is a better appetizer deal. But either way. It's all about the main event, the steak. I ordered the Ribeye and it was cooked perfectly with delicious flavor and was definitely worth it. They didn't offer any bday treat or anything which is fine because I was stuffed but I do know some parties ask about stuff like that
Dinner at Abe & Louie’s absolutely lived up to the hype. The steak was cooked perfectly with an incredible char and flavor, and every side dish felt like it could’ve been the star of the meal on its own. The hash browns were unreal, the mac and cheese was rich and crispy on top, and the green beans were simple but done perfectly. The oysters Rockefeller and French onion soup were also standout starters. The whole experience felt classic Boston steakhouse in the best way possible. Great atmosphere, attentive service, and a meal that felt worth every calorie. Easily one of the best steak dinners we’ve had in the city.
Abe and Louie’s is the best meal in Boston! We came here for my daughter’s college graduation and I only wish we found it years ago as it would have been a must-do for every visit. Each item was amazing, prepared perfectly, and the presentation was beautiful. Our server was exceptionally helpful and friendly, preventing us from over-ordering sides and guiding us to the best items. They brought out gluten free bread and a gluten free dessert for my daughter as soon as they heard she was gluten free, without us having to ask. Definitely make a trip here and you will not be disappointed.
Abe & Louie’s gets the fundamentals right in a way that feels increasingly rare: this is a steakhouse where technique, ingredient quality, and restraint matter as much as generosity. The value is not just the size of the cuts, but the quality of the beef, the precision of the preparation, and the care in the plating, which keeps the dish polished without trying too hard. The steak arrives with a proper crust, a deeply savory aroma, and an interior cooked evenly from edge to center, so the texture stays tender and juicy instead of drifting into dryness. Sides and accompaniments are handled with the same discipline, giving the plate balance rather than excess, and the seasoning is confident without overwhelming the natural flavor of the meat. Even small details, like the serving temperature and the measured timing between courses, signal a kitchen and floor team that are paying attention. Service is polished, efficient, and professional, and the room has the right balance of energy and comfort for either a serious dinner or a celebratory night out. Reserve ahead, and an earlier dinner slot is the best move if you want the room lively but not too crowded.
If you love a great steakhouse, Boston has far better options than this. After spending roughly $500 on dinner for two, I expected a polished, special experience. Abe & Louie’s delivered neither. Instead, what we experienced was a series of amateur mistakes that should never happen at this price point. We were seated upstairs and I immediately noticed dirty, water-spotted wine glasses, greasy silverware, and a stained, food-splattered menu. The dirty dishes became a theme throughout the meal, with multiple dishes being hand delivered still having specs of debris on them, or being wet out of the dishwasher. Gross. For drinks, my partner ordered a dirty martini and I got a signature cocktail, their cucumber martini. My cucumber martini arrived without any sweetness at all. I later overheard the bartender say it was his third shift. While my very kind server comped the drink, this is obviously a training error. An established restaurant charging premium prices should not be training bartenders on paying guests. The dirty martini was good, but the restaurant’s known to provide the strained rocks in an “extra” glass. That didn’t arrive until his second refill. For appetizers, we ordered the 4oz A5 wagyu ($125) and lobster dumplings. The wagyu had excellent flavor but was ice-cold in the center despite being ordered medium-rare. The dumplings were overcooked and rubbery. The ingredients were clearly high quality, they just totally missed on execution. The steaks themselves were cooked properly, but massively over-salted. The dish’s presentation was so boring that I didn’t even bother to snap a pic. Just a steak on a plate. You would think if we’re ordering “enhancements” like sauces and sides, they should present the dish accordingly. We shared the au gratin and asparagus, both were fine but not exceptional. There was almost no cheese in the au gratin. The most unsettling part of the evening was watching food run through the dining room on a multi-tiered delivery cart, with uncovered plates riding on the lowest shelf just inches above a dirty winter carpet, dodging boots and sneakers. This was genuinely shocking. If this meal cost half as much, the food might have been acceptable. At this price, the lack of cleanliness, training, and attention to detail is indefensible. As of now, this ranks among my worst fine-dining experiences in Boston.
