This is the oldest restaurant in Berlin and we made a reservation ahead of time. We ordered the Spargelcremesuppe (Cream of Asparagus Soup), Eingelegtes Gemüse (Pickled Vegetables), Kohlwickel (German Cabbage Rolls), Königsberger Klopse, along with a Jubiläums-Pilsner beer. The service was among the best we experienced in Berlin. Our waitress and the rest of the staff were exceptionally warm, welcoming, and genuinely cheerful throughout the meal, which made the entire dining experience even more enjoyable. The food was excellent across the board. The asparagus soup was rich and comforting, while both the Kohlwickel and Königsberger Klopse showcased traditional German cuisine at its best. Every dish was well prepared and full of flavor. The restaurant is also known for serving one of the best pork knuckles in Berlin. Unfortunately, we skipped it because we had several disappointing pork knuckle experiences earlier in our trip. Looking back, that was probably a mistake and something we regret not trying. Overall, this was a wonderful dining experience with great food, outstanding service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended.
A time-honored institution in Berlin. An old building that retains the atmosphere and charm of a bygone era. The service is excellent; the wine list is small but features some wonderful German wines. The food is presented in a modern style with an emphasis on quality, though it’s not the kind of extraordinary cuisine that blows your mind. That said, it’s great for trying out modern takes on German dishes. You should definitely go.
“I visited the oldest restaurant in Berlin!” Pretty cool thing to say eh. Rly good food & fantastic portions! Everything was so delicious - I loved the pork knuckle, meatballs & risotto! The cheese dumplings were also very unique. Did find the duck a bit dry though
Our party of four had an excellent experience at Berlin’s oldest restaurant. We started with mustard eggs and mountain cheese dumplings. The eggs were perfect and dumplings while good were somewhat bland. For dinner we shared plates family style including the fish of the day; pork knuckle; meatballs; and stuffed cabbage roll. While the pork knuckle was great, the rich flavors in the meatball dish made this my favorite. I’d never had a cabbage roll before and this was amazing, too. The freshly baked homemade apple pie was warm layered with cinnamon and nicely caramelized. Two servers ran the show for the entire restaurant and while we had to wait occasionally for some items they were attentive and playful.
Amazing food we got the meatballs, cabbage roll and pork knuckle and shared it before 4 of us, big portions, very tasty food. Good beer too.
