We found this place completely by accident on our first night in Beijing, after realizing that the Peking duck restaurant we had planned to visit had a four-hour wait. With no backup plan and heavy rain outside, we decided to look for something nearby. At the time, we had no idea what kind of restaurant this was, though we had a slight suspicion when our Didi driver seemed genuinely excited to drop us off there. When we arrived, we immediately noticed the many awards and Michelin plaques displayed at the entrance. Combined with the elegant, upscale interior, it was a bit intimidating, as we definitely hadn’t planned for such a refined dining experience. Still, we were tired, hungry, and soaked from the rain, so we decided to give it a chance—and we’re incredibly glad we did. From the moment we sat down, the service was warm, professional, and attentive without feeling stiff. The atmosphere was relaxed yet refined, making us feel comfortable very quickly. Every dish we tried was outstanding, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. What surprised us most was how affordable everything was, especially considering the quality, service, and recognition the restaurant has received. This ended up being one of the highlights of our trip to Beijing. We loved the experience from start to finish and would absolutely return without hesitation. We can highly recommend this restaurant, particularly for English speakers, as communication was easy and the staff made us feel very welcome throughout the entire meal.
Really great, authentic cuisine! Understandable why they have received the Michelin star year after year. We ordered braised pork belly, boiled peanuts, fried bao, and lamb which was all delicious. The dining space included curtains for privacy and the staff were very attentive and kind. They even threw in a free mango lassi-like dessert which was delicious.
Very affordable for a michelin 1-star restaurant. I paid rmb 155. I had individual portion of braised pork belly in brown sauce, tofu chrysanthemum in matsutake stock, lotus root, rice, and they gave a mango pomelo dessert for free.
Wow! I can see why this restaurant is in the Michelin guide. Absolutely amazing food. Mao’s favourite dish is highly recommended, great experience for a very affordable price! Highly recommended and will for sure come back again if I am in Beijing.
This is my first (and maybe last) google review — one of the best meals of my life. Please get the special buns.
