A legendary, no-nonsense local institution that has served the exact same simple menu since 1941.

Came here alone by bike in the morning to try their fried fish and fish head soup. It was just after 9 AM and the place was already almost full, with a long queue of people waiting for tables. Luckily, since I was dining alone, I could share a table and got seated quickly — ordered right away without any hassle. Looking at the photos on the wall and the bustling crowd, I could already feel people's love for this place even before taking my first bite. Lots of locals were here with their families, and everyone's plates were scraped clean. Food came out pretty quickly, but be prepared — it's busy. The meal was simple yet delicious. Definitely lives up to its reputation as a local specialty. The fried fish was crispy and fragrant. The soup had a strong ginger flavour, scallion oil, and maybe a hint of lemongrass. The plain white rice paired perfectly with their standout chilli sauce — the real game changer. I was sweating the whole time eating, but I finished every bit and even packed some to take home for my family. At the checkout, I also bought two bags of their homemade prawn crackers — really tasty. If you're a tourist staying near the beach, hopping on a bike and riding over to the pier is a great food option. Highly recommend!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Visited Warung Mak Beng around 9:30 in the morning and it wasn’t too crowded yet, so the experience was very comfortable. Parking was also quite easy to find. The menu is simple ; fried fish, fish soup, and sambal, but everything tasted really good and fresh. The soup was flavorful and the sambal added the perfect kick. Definitely a must-try local food spot in Bali!

Located at cosy corner along Sanur beach. Their menu is standardised for easy ordering. The soup is flavourful spicy and contains generous chunks of boiled fish & cucumber cooked till soft. The fried fish is done well with a crunch that pairs well with the sambal and white rice. Suggest pairing with a cold bottle of Teh Sosro; helps to wash down the spicy heat and salty umami richness of the soup! Take note they only accept physical cash, was perplexed to know the shop doesn’t accept credit card or QR code payments.

By a Devoted Disciple of Spice There is a fine line between a meal and an obsession, and Warung Mak Beng crosses it with absolute, unapologetic confidence. They don’t give you a massive menu because they don’t need to; they do one thing, and they do it with masterclass precision. The Main Event: Crispy Fish & The Legendary Sambal The fish arrives with a perfectly golden, shattering crispiness on the outside, sealing in the incredibly tender, fresh meat beneath. But the real magic happens when you introduce it to the chili. This isn't just heat; it’s a direct spice punch to the senses, laced with that unmistakable, rich depth of FA Labour—it is, in a word, perfect. The Soup: An Umami Masterclass To balance the crunch, the soup swoops in to steal the show. It’s a masterly balance of tangy and spicy, packing a punchy, deep umami flavor that hits the back of your throat and demands you take another spoonful. It’s comforting, vibrant, and fiercely traditional. The Liquid Refreshment: Temulawak Soda To survive the glorious onslaught of heat, you need a serious drink, and their Temulawak Soda is a brilliant, unconventional hero. It’s an intriguing blend of traditional Indonesian spices turned into a cold, sweet, and beautifully bubbly elixir. In the sweltering heat, this icy, effervescent tonic is exactly what the doctor ordered to reset your palate. Final Thoughts: Mak Beng doesn't just feed you; they wake your tastebuds up. If you haven't been yet, stop walking and start running.

This restaurant only sell 1 set of menu. Fried fish, fish soup, rice. Then you can add on drinks. I suggest pick the jumbo size, only add 10k rupiah, it's super worth it. If you're 3-4 person, you can get jumbled with another group if only small table available, so be comfortable with strangers ok?
