An extraordinary bar built directly onto limestone cliffs, accessed via an outdoor inclinator, with waves crashing below.

We visited Rock Bar on our third evening while staying at AYANA Resort, with high expectations given its reputation. We had specifically reserved a non-smoking area in advance. However, upon arrival, we were seated directly next to the smoking section. If guests take the effort to select non-smoking seating, the arrangement should meaningfully reflect that request. Otherwise, the distinction becomes pointless. Regarding the drinks — for a venue that markets itself as one of the “Top Bars in the World,” the cocktails were surprisingly diluted. They lacked depth, balance, and character, tasting more like flavored ice water than thoughtfully crafted signature cocktails. At this price point, the quality did not match the branding. The view is good, but not extraordinary. What significantly diminished the experience was the constant flow of tourists standing directly in front of our table to take photos, repeatedly blocking the ocean view. There appeared to be no clear management of guest flow or designated photo zones, resulting in frequent interruptions during dinner. Midway through our meal, heavy rain began — which we understand is beyond anyone’s control. However, after requesting the bill, we were asked to wait and ended up standing in the rain for a prolonged period without assistance. Eventually, out of frustration and boredom, we finished the remaining food. Later, we were informed that a discount could have been applied to the unfinished dishes — but since we had already eaten them, it was no longer possible. This suggests that the contingency procedures for weather-related disruptions are not well structured. To be fair, the service staff were genuinely attentive and clearly tried their best to resolve the situation. They were apologetic and even offered to arrange the “best table” for us the following evening. Their professionalism and effort are appreciated. However, the issue does not lie with the frontline staff, but with the overall operational design and SOP. Seating management, smoking area enforcement, crowd control, weather contingency handling, billing efficiency, and overall food and beverage quality all reveal a gap between branding and execution. The food presentation was visually appealing, but the taste was average — more style than substance. Given the “Top 10 Bar” positioning, expectations are understandably high. Based on our experience, the title feels more like strong marketing than earned distinction.

Rock Bar Bali is truly one of the most breathtaking places on the island. Perched right above the ocean, it offers spectacular sunset views and an unforgettable atmosphere. One of the highlights is the iconic inclinator that takes you down the cliff — an experience in itself and a signature feature of this stunning venue. The food was delicious, the cocktails were excellent, and watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean made the entire evening feel magical. If you are looking for a place with incredible views, amazing ambiance, and great cuisine, Rock Bar is an absolute must-visit in Bali.

An extraordinary setting that stands as one of the most visually striking venues I have had the pleasure of visiting. | The view is absolutely breathtaking — arguably one of the finest natural backdrops of any bar in Bali | Finger food was decent and well-presented | Cocktail selection was satisfactory, though the setting undoubtedly remains the primary draw | Staff were consistently polite and attentive throughout the visit | A member of the team graciously offered to photograph us against the stunning backdrop The most memorable aspect of the visit, however, was an entirely unexpected gesture — a handwritten anniversary letter had been prepared in advance of our reservation. A remarkably thoughtful touch that elevated the experience considerably. For the view alone, Rock Bar merits a visit. Arriving at sunset is strongly recommended for the full experience.

Unfortunately, we did not have the best experience here, which was disappointing given the reputation and price point of the venue. We had reserved a table for a sunset dinner, but upon arrival there was already a queue to get in. It felt as though the venue had been oversubscribed, as we were not seated until well after our reservation time. We were informed of a 300k minimum spend, but it was not made clear that this was per person, which caused confusion from the start. The journey down via the funicular was a cool experience, and the setting itself is undeniably beautiful. The sunset views were stunning, with huge waves crashing below and the mountains in the distance creating an incredible backdrop. However, once seated, we were only given a drinks and bar snacks menu despite having booked for dinner. We then waited well over an hour without any service. We repeatedly tried to get the attention of staff, but were continually overlooked while tables around us that had arrived at the same time, or later, were served food and drinks. By the time we finally received our drinks, around two hours had passed since arriving. When we asked about food, we were informed that we had been seated in the sunset bar area rather than the dinner restaurant, which was not what we had booked. Trying to pay at the end of the evening was equally frustrating. We again struggled to get the attention of staff and eventually had to seek someone out ourselves. It was only then that we were told the minimum spend was actually per person. At that point, after the poor service and lack of communication throughout the evening, we had no desire to stay longer or order more. We asked to speak to a manager, but after another lengthy wait no manager appeared. One of the waiters did try to help by looking for a table in the dinner section, which we appreciated, but by then we had already spent hours waiting and simply wanted to leave. The venue itself is undeniably beautiful and the sunset views are spectacular. Unfortunately, the service, communication, and organisation fell far below what we would expect from such a high end establishment, and it ultimately overshadowed what should have been a special evening.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rock Bar is truly one of Bali’s most iconic sunset destinations — perched dramatically on the cliffs of Jimbaran, it offers breathtaking ocean views that are simply unforgettable. Watching the sun dip below the horizon with waves crashing beneath you feels magical, and the overall ambience is unmatched. It’s definitely a must-visit spot for anyone who loves scenic views, good vibes, and great music. The atmosphere is vibrant yet relaxed, especially as the sky changes colours. The live DJ adds a nice energy to the evening without being too loud. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a cocktail, take in the sea breeze, and just unwind. The drinks are well-crafted and beautifully presented, though the prices are definitely on the higher side — expected for a venue with such a view. The food is decent but not particularly memorable; it serves more as a complement to the drinks and sunset rather than the highlight itself. The service was generally friendly, though it can be a bit slow during peak hours due to the large crowd. Staff members were polite but seemed slightly overwhelmed at times. Overall, Rock Bar delivers a spectacular visual and sensory experience. It’s perfect for sunsets, celebrations, or just soaking in the best of Bali’s coastal charm. While it’s not ideal for foodies seeking fine dining, it’s absolutely worth visiting for the view and atmosphere alone.
