Fantastic stay at LyLo. Matthew at the front desk was extremely helpful and kind with check in. LyLo is about 5 minutes walk from the sky tower, 10 minutes walk from the viaduct. Easy to walk around from there. There are a mix of shared rooms & shared bathroom as well as private rooms with or without private bathroom. I booked a queen room (be sure to request for a window in the room since not all have it). The room itself was very clean when I arrived. Lobby area is very warm and welcoming with guides to help plan excursions. There is also a restaurant that serves coffee and alcohol in the lobby. Interestingly, there is also a barbershop you can reserve for a nice hair haircut! 10/10 would recommend!
Stayed here for a fortnight. Truly a class hostel. The staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The rooms were modern, and the bathrooms were spotless. The only downside is that the kitchen might be too small for the size of the hostel, but otherwise it's well equipped and clean. The lack of shelf space is also an issue. Storage is already quite limited, and some departing guests don't free up their spots when they leave. Check out the Happy Travels desk if you're looking for a car rental or a tour. They know their stuff, and their prices are unbeatable.
Booked a private room (Double bed) with a shared bathroom for 2 nights but spent a night and some hours here. I've stayed at many hostels all over the world and this one is modern and overall quite nice. Not sure if they offer anything to foster social interaction though. There's a ladies restroom with showers and a handicap-accessible restroom with a shower on the same floor of my room around the corner. It was quiet at night. The room is ok for 1 person, but here are the cons: - There was no TV - There were 3 outlets - No thermostat or way to adjust the temperature if you needed to. - There's no window. - There's no table or big wall shelving to put additional items if you were staying multiple days or just wanted to space out your belongings in a neat fashion. - One hook was missing from the wall to hang an additional item There was a vertical mirror and a chair in the room. The fridge in the lobby was way too full. The kitchen should be bigger with the amount of guests I saw. They have a laundromat on-site but you need to get a token from the front desk and the price is higher than the standard price across NZ. It's $5 to wash, $5 to dry. It's nice that the hostel comes with a restaurant and serves breakfast and lunch items. The area does have many restaurants within walking distance. I could only stay here again if they have a private room with a window or just needed a quick 1 night.
Great Location & Perfect for a Short Stay The location is excellent. From the airport, you can take the bus to the main station, and it’s only about a 6-minute walk to the hotel. Very convenient. The hotel is clean, well-organized, and lively. It’s especially ideal for travelers staying just one night before continuing their journey. The location is a big plus — you’re right in the city center. The harbor is within walking distance, or you can easily use a scooter. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the shared kitchen is well-equipped with everything you need to make coffee or prepare a simple meal. A couple of things to note: towels are not included (you need to bring your own or pay NZD 5), and there is no shampoo or body wash provided in the showers. Overall, a very good option for a short and convenient stay.
I stayed in a four-bed dorm at LyLo for 7 nights, and it was a really enjoyable experience. The location is super convenient, and the front desk staff were very friendly. The common areas on the first and second floors were also nice places to relax. One thing I really liked was the privacy of the beds — each capsule has its own outlet and storage space, which makes a big difference. There are also lockers in the room that you can access with a key card, and they’re quite spacious. The bathrooms and showers were very clean as well. If I come back to Auckland, I’d definitely choose LyLo again.
