Came here for a work event and we ordered quite a lot. I got the snapper fillet. It was cooked nicely but I found scales. And also it was only paired with a lemon and lettuce. For 41.95 I expect there to be a sauce or some puree to go with it ? The steak weren't cooked that well. Some parts were charred too much. The salads were okay and plain. Dessert was creme brulee and the ice cream was good. Overall not too memorable but nice location
Following the great experience we had at the Botswana Butchery Queenstown we decided to end our NZ holiday at the Auckland restaurant. I will say now that they can't be compared as they are different in vibe and also menu options. But they were also very good. Overlooking the harbour int he old ferry building, the interior is bright and friendly. They do have the comfy chairs as well and the the butcher knives everywhere. The menu has the steak list as well as lamb and the fish. Here we also could have had Crayfish. The entries and mains are a bit different too to the Queenstown venue. We loved the market fish crude, the oysters (from coromandel), the waguy tartar and the squid. We also had the lamb rack, the waguy steak (with bone marrow & truffle butter) and charred zucchini/duck fat potatoes on the side. All very delicious. Dessert was a dark chocolate parfair and a French sounding dish which looked like profiteroles. The staff were fantastic, our host (American guy) was so lovely, even when we ordered the squid with the desserts( first time for everything😄). Overall another wonderful experience and the perfect way to conclude this trip.
Our tour guide recommend this restaurant to us for good lamb and oysters and he was right. Came in on Sunday evening around 5pm and wasn't packed at all, got a seat immediately outside next to the water. I ordered Lamb T-bone, half dozen natural oysters, and hapuku fillet. The oysters were very fresh, good sweetness, minor saltiness from the sea, and tendor texture. Highly recommend ordering as a appetizer. Lamb T-bone was great, ordered as medium rare and was very tender. Great flavor and more than enough meat to satisfy most people for dinner. Was still red and had a little bit of the char flavor from the grill. It would have been nice to have a couple veggies but it is what it says on the menu so can't complain. Paired it with some local Rock red wine which was also nice. Not a wine connoisseur, so can't judge it properly but enjoyed it. Fish was also very well made. Cooked perfectly. Smoking, slightly seared, with a slight miso flavor. Highly recommend as well. Overall great spot to eat on the water front, food cooked excellently and very fresh.
A great location and have passed it many times so decided to try as a walk-in. Called someone over to take order as we waited awhile and no one approach after being sat down. Ordered entree and was told there was a specific way that the menu needs to be explained before we could order and was told the lady will come explain in a bit. Waiting for a quick ten minutes and our entree came but still no sign of anyone coming over so decided to start eating first and finished it. Hokkaido scallop was small and rubbery, overcooked. Croquette was great a paired with the sauce it went really well. Mains we asked for medium rare on the T-Bone (which one of the waiter ordered for us after seeing we’ve finished the entree and not realising we have not been helped with the explanations on menu which the first server really emphasised.) T- bone turned up nearly medium to well-done and was dry and taste of charcoal bitterness. Was almost going to order a drink but thought I’m not giving this place anymore of my time and money so finished it and went away. Disappointed but mate give it another try in the future.
My wife Anna and I decided to treat ourselves for our last night of holiday and finally try the Butchery. The staff, especially Hunter behind the bar and Kenny our server were beyond phenomenal. The kitchen staff deserves all the love and respect as well, this was one of the best meals and nights out I’ve had in the 7 years I’ve lived here. My god everything that Kenny and Hunter recommended for us was just perfect. What an incredible way to end a great trip. Thank you so much guys! We’ll be seeing you again next time we’re back up this way!
