I first saw the Town Hall when I arrived in Auckland, and later I had the chance to see it more closely during my time in the city. The building already stands out from the outside, with its classic architecture that contrasts with all the modern things around it. But the most beautiful part is definitely inside. The main hall, used for concerts, is a stunning space. It looks like something from a movie, and it has a huge, historic organ that is still preserved. It’s one of those instruments that impress you just by looking at it. I loved that many original details are still there: the tiles, the stained glass windows, the stair railings, the wooden floors — all well preserved and in good condition. You can tell they really care about the history of the place. It’s a building with a strong presence in the city, a local landmark and the site of historic events, like the visit of The Beatles in 1964 and even The Rolling Stones in 1965. It’s worth going in if you’re in the city center, even just for a short visit. It’s not always open to the public, but there are often events and concerts. I recommend it. It’s a piece of Auckland’s history.
saw ethel cain on valentine’s day, absolutely gorgeous concert, the venue, the staff, i love that the venue has multiple exits in the place, it was the most peaceful experience in the pit i’ve ever had, with the ability to leave and come back when you need - i unfortunately had a health flare up very early into the night and the team went above and beyond to find us (my fiancé and i) a new place to sit during a full house, i, in passing, said that i wished i had a hard copy of the ticket and with my new seats they handed me the tickets. wonderful night, made excellent by the crew. thank you.
I attended the Paco Peña show on 17 April 2026, and it was my first time visiting this venue. Unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. We purchased some of the most expensive tickets available, located on the second floor, right wing, front row near the curve. Upon arrival, we immediately noticed that our view of the stage was partially obstructed by the wooden balcony—we could only see part of the performance. (right side) There was also a lack of organisation, with people moving around and sitting in seats that were not assigned to them. I could hear others discussing the same issue. Once the show started, it became even more frustrating, as we couldn’t see the dancers whenever they moved to the left side of the stage. Many people started leaning forward or shifting seats to try to get a better view. To make matters worse, someone nearby was smoking weed, which was chaotic and unpleasant. I attempted to move slightly closer to the stage, as I saw others doing on the opposite side of the second floor, just to be able to see at least part of the performance. However, an usher stopped me and insisted I return to my assigned seat, even following me back. What was frustrating was that other people on the same level were allowed to remain in better positions without being approached. The performance itself was excellent and deserved a much better venue, such as the Civic. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, especially given the price of the tickets. If you’re planning to attend an event at this venue, I strongly recommend avoiding second-floor seats unless they are directly in front of the stage.
Our choir had a wonderful experience performing at the Auckland Town Hall! The venue is beautiful, with amazing acoustics and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The staff were helpful, and the hall’s historic charm made our performance even more special.
Came to see a concert with a disabled family member. The concert was GA standing and even though they don’t usually give seats out to GA ticket holders the management team accommodated us. Very grateful and impressed with their response. An awesome venue with equally awesome staff. Thank you!
