First time trying local New Zealand food but fine-dining style & we were so blown away by the dishes. We had ordered 1 appetiser, 1 starter & 2 mains, which our host told us it might be too little so we decided to get sides of veggies & potatoes but the portions were huge for those! Everything was delicious & I wished we had bigger appetites to try other items as well. I think my favourite might have been the salmon appetiser but then again even the lamb was so good & the veggies had a nice twist to it. Best to make reservations, though we walked in around 5:45pm without reservations but it was rather early too & got the bar counter seats.

Had a lovely experience at Ahi. with the family. Service was top notch, the ingredients all felt premium and fresh. All the flavour pairings were creative and worked well with each other. All the dishes were presented beautifully as well. The sauces were a highlight, they must’ve worked some sort of magic into them because I wanted to lick the plates. The sourdough and potatoes were the favourites at our table. We also enjoyed the leak dip with salt and vinegar crisps very much. Would love to return again and try their desserts as well. The restaurant had a magnificent view of the harbour and we were very fortunate the weather was immaculate. Very happy with our time, a unique experience that I will be sharing with friends and family.

My partner and I saw Ben Bayly’s food story on TV and honestly after watching it, we said we had to visit! And honestly it lived up to my imagination. We were seated on the edge of the balcony so our views were great. The wait staff were very attentive and lovely to talk to - as well as being confidently knowledgeable about the food. The drinks were gorgeous and the food- outstanding. Absolutely incredible. Delicious. Definitely coming back!

We dined at Ahi with high expectations. We appreciated the strong focus on sustainability and the evident care taken in sourcing ingredients. While I admired the technical execution of the dishes, none of them really stood out or had a memorable character. Portion sizes were quite small considering we ordered two entrées, two side dishes, four mains, and dessert, yet still left feeling underwhelmed. The cocktails lacked roundness and depth of flavour, which was disappointing given the setting. Service from the staff was good and attentive, and the atmosphere was fine overall. However, on a cold day it was surprising that there was no outdoor heating available, which affected comfort. Overall, a technically competent experience with admirable sustainability values, but it didn’t quite deliver on flavour, value, or warmth.

At over $400 for the two of us it was definitely on the expensive side. The service was great and having the chef deliver the food and explain what was on the plate was a nice touch. The only issue was the loud heavy base background music. I think a softer jazz would have better suited the restaurant. On the food side everything tasted delicious however the pāua was a little tough as was some of the octopus. The lamb and red deer meals were delicious and cooked perfectly.
