Stunning 🤩 a great experience; we went with a tour guide that was explaining around for us and helped us learn more about the history. I recommend it. It gets busy and I am sure that in summer time it is very hot - I visit end of may and it was already warm. Be prepared with water, hats. The floor is slippery so attention to wear proper shoes. It has a bit of uphill climbing but it is ok.
There are 2 entrance gates, one at the West and East. The West Gate is the main entrance were there (when asked) is also for the disabled a possibility to get an elevator, the East Gate is a side entrance near the Acropolis Museum. Normally the East Gate is more quiet. Ofcourse you want to visit both, the Acropolis as well as the museum. Did you know the upper floor of the museum has exactly the size of the Payhenon? There is so much history here. You must see and feel it for yourself. The Acropolis must have been astonishing. The first photo came from the Stoa. A glance into the past: this is how the Acropolis looked like aprox 2500 BC. The second photo is from a painting which was painted in 1805. There you can see the Acropolis and the city of Athens. Athens was much more smaller in 1805 😉 Oh yeah, apart from the rich history of the Acropolis the vieuw on the city of Athens is amazing! Enjoy!
The Acropolis was breathtaking! Visiting this amazing historical site was truly a rich experience. After living in Athens for 3 weeks, I finally decided to visit, and while the price of €30 was a little steep, the moment I reached the entrance to the Propylaea, it immediately felt worth it. Standing high above the city, the site offers breathtaking panoramic views of Athens and an unforgettable journey into ancient history. Walking up to the Parthenon is quite the hike, but you are rewarded with different lookout points, the Odeion of Herodes Atticus, panels with historical facts, and many cute and friendly cats 🥰. We went on a Saturday afternoon in January, and while there were crowds, we still managed to take good pictures. I recommend arriving at around 3pm to hike up with enough time to take in the scenery and watch the sunset at the top of the hill. Wear comfortable and grippy shoes, as the marble pathways can be slippery. Also, bring water and sunglasses just in case! Most importantly, be mindful of littering and pay your respects to this amazing site, as there will be guards watching you. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or a casual traveler, the Acropolis is an absolute must-see when visiting Athens. It’s definitely a powerful reminder of Greece’s incredible cultural legacy.
We had a really lovely time here, we got here in midday, came out from Thissio underground train line 1. Turn right following the ruins on ground level where restaurants on your left ruins on your right. There are some flights of stairs with restaurant tables along it, we continue uphill where we met with some flights of stairs which will land you on the path to the entrance on your right, this is a cheeky cut through. Would advise good shoes that grips the ground as most of the surfaces are marble stones. I was fighting some cold, but still managed to enjoy the hike. Those who think it is too high to hike, please don't let that put you off, just take your time. Most of the climb you already achieved while walking towards the entrance, so it's not that dramatic. They do provide lifts/elevator if you are in need of assistance with walking. Would advise you how early in the morning as it was really hot when we got there. Definitely worth the efforts. So beautiful and historic, a must if this is your first visit to Greece.
A truly magnificent archeological site, a must see in life, with breathtaking views over Athens and the Med. The Parthenon is the most famous building out there, but the Propylaea and the Erechtheion are also amazing. The acropolis is one of the reasons why Athens is simply one of the most beautiful cities throughout Europe.
