I came to Athens hoping to see history. I didn’t expect to sit inside it. Listening to Víkingur Ólafsson play piano beneath the Acropolis as darkness settled over the city was one of those rare moments where everything slows down and you become fully present. The music was extraordinary, but so was the setting. Ancient stone, thousands of people, warm evening air, and a feeling that generations before us gathered here for the same reason: to share an experience bigger than themselves. One of the most beautiful venues I’ve ever visited anywhere in the world.
Truly impressive. The Acropolis is even more majestic in person, and the view over Athens is spectacular. A place full of history and definitely worth visiting.
There are some venues that host performances. Then there are venues that become part of the performance. Watching Víkingur Ólafsson play beneath the Acropolis at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus was one of the most memorable live music experiences I’ve ever had. The combination of world-class musicianship, ancient stone, warm Athenian air, and a sky that slowly turned from blue to black felt almost impossible to describe. For a few hours, it felt like time folded in on itself. Two thousand years of history surrounding a piano and a crowd completely locked into the moment. If you’re visiting Athens and have the opportunity to attend a performance here, don’t think twice. This isn’t just a concert venue. It’s one of those rare places that reminds you how small, connected, and wonderfully human we all are.
Visiting the Odeon of Herodes Atticus was genuinely one of my favourite moments in Athens. Sitting beneath the Acropolis, the theatre feels incredibly powerful and timeless, with its grand stone arches and perfectly curved seating creating such an intimate atmosphere.

Whether attending a concert, theatrical performance, or ceremonial event, visitors are immersed in an atmosphere that blends history with grandeur. Every occasion held here is elevated by the venue’s architectural beauty and profound heritage.
