What a gem I’m the middle of Athens. This once private collection of impressionist and post impressionist art is a joy of color and discovery. The two floors of modern Greek art were a fantastic introduction to the visitor with little exposure to 20tj century Greek artists. The real treat was the temporary exhibit From Monet to Warhol was a real exciting treat. An excellently curated walk through the 20th century. Apparently made up of pieces from the permanent collection and pieces on loan from tne Mertzbachet collection in Zurich. What a treat. What a joy of color.
I really loved visiting the Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation Museum in Athens. The museum is beautifully organized and very well maintained, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. The upper floors display the permanent collection, while the -1 floor hosts temporary exhibitions. This is a great idea because it brings new paintings and artworks regularly, making the museum interesting to visit again and discover something different each time. The collection itself is impressive, featuring works from famous international artists as well as important Greek painters, creating a wonderful mix of modern and contemporary art.
Beautiful museum, just the right size, with an incredible permanent collection reflecting many of the main art movements in the 20th century, both in Greece and internationally. Highly recommended. There is also a nice coffee shop and restaurant on the mezzanine floor. It is a lovely way to spend an afternoon in Athens.
After our shopping my wife and I past by and had no idea there was an exhibition going on. It was from Monet to Warhol. As we both love art we decided to go. It was our first time in this Foundation and we were very impressed by the size, and how well it was organized. On the -1 floor was the classic art exhibition with works from Picasso, van Gogh and many more great artists. On the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floor was many more to see. Also quite some art from Greek artists, and there was an area with beautiful furniture and Chinese porcelain. All with all a very nice and beautiful exhibition! We really enjoyed it 🤓
A thoughtfully curated private museum with both a compelling permanent collection and well-conceived temporary exhibitions. The space is elegant and balanced, allowing each work to breathe and speak for itself. A refined selection of artworks and a truly inspiring cultural experience. We visited with our small children, and the staff treated them with kindness and respect — without hovering, which can sometimes happen in museums. Our children are used to visiting museums, and they were engaged and curious here, even pointing out the works they especially liked. I am especially looking forward to my next visit for the unique sound healing experience with singing bowls set within the museum space.
