This hostel is located in a wonderful area right next to an entrance of the Vondelpark. We (parents plus two girls, age 7 and 10) stayed in the old part of the hostel, my favourite part since the rooms are higher and got a pretty view into the chestnut trees and the balconys of the pretty houses on the opposite or in the Vondelpark. This is our second stay, we LOVE it here. Very clean rooms, very clean bathrooms and showers. Strong shower pressure, easy laundry room, comfortable beds, soft sheets and cosy covers! The little winter garden is nice green and pretty! The people who are cleaning the rooms are especially kind and friendly!!!
This hostel is the perfect stay for someone who wants a nice place to stay for a good amount of money. The hostel is not too far from the center, it feels walkable to most places. The rooms are nice and get cleaned everyday. Everything feels very safe, especially the rooms with only females. Living here also gives easy access to Vondel Park for nightly a nightly stroll or for a picknick during the day. Highly recommend!
The hostel itself is very nice and clean. We only booked for a weekend but due the war in the middle east our flights got repeatedly cancelled with no return date in sight. We had to extend our stay one day at a time. The manager was super understanding of our situation and even let us stay at the same room at a lower rate than we originally paid. The only problem was when we wanted to extend for the 7th day we were told by the worker at the reception that there’s a policy in place where you can’t stay for 7 nights. They couldn’t explain why (even said they don’t understand it themselves) and said that only the manager could make an exception and that she’s not here. The cleaning crew was also a bit pushy, on the first morning we extended they must have forgot to notify them and they burst into our room twice. They also went into our room when we were out to take the hair dryer we got at the reception (unsure why?). The day we were actually supposed to check out they burst into our room at 9:59 (checkout is not until 10:30). Still leaving my review at 4 stars because I do believe this is a good hostel at a great location.
The hostel is wonderful -- I particularly loved the all ages aspect: I saw teenagers, young couples with toddlers, and adults with grey hair. The breakfast was generous, the social spaces well varied, from bar to lounge to games rooms. There are small improvements I'd make: The bed coverlets are too narrow. I'm not a wide person, but the coverlet gapped and let in drafts. This made me turn the radiator heat up. The showers need more and bigger hooks, and shelving for people shorter than 165cm. The hemp toilet paper is laudable, but rough. The wifi was iffy in my room (a double, in Park). But all in all, good value for money, the staff were stellar and the bike shed was very welcome. I will definitely stay again.
The location was amazing for me! I LOVED being next to the park! My room faced the park and it was a little hard to sleep with the noise but it was worth the trade off to be there for sure. I wish there had been a small kitchen area just for 2am coffee. The time changes most of us are going through make it a little tough to not be able to make a tea or coffee. Otherwise, the hostel was clean, staff was friendly and very attentive. Breakfast was perfect! Thank you, I will be back!
